A number of forums allow for advertsing in specific areas. Then there are those that do not. In these, you can place your links in your signature files. When marketing in theforums, you must get active in them and stay active. stay on topic within the discussions and don’t veer off to promote your site or service.
Finally, the one major thing to remember is to obey the forum rules. Some forums allow a certain number of posts per day. Others only allow signature files to be posted after a certain number of posts. Failing to obey forum rules could cost your membership in them and lost traffic.
Another good method of traffic building is though reciprocal linking or link swapping. This takes longer to build up, but is well worth the time invested. With this method, both participating sites enjoy the traffic overflow from the other by means of traded links permanently placed othe other’s website.
Another way to do this is through reciprocal linking scripts that allow permanent links to be placed on them. These scripts are automated and can give the participating sites a common site which functions like a community for all the sites. This is a method that works. There are webmasters who swear by its success.
An added bonus to this form of traffic building is that it also helps build a website’s ranking in the search engines.
E-mail marketing is still considered to be one of the best ways to promote there is. It can get great results in a short period of time. Using safelists is considered to be a good means of promotion. But there is something to be cautious about. If you are renting a list be sure it is from a reputable company.
You will find that there are a number of fly by night companies out there that will sell you harvested lists or lists so worn out that they are less than useless. These are the companies to be avoided at all costs.
Without a doubt, viral marketing is one of the best ways to promote known.
