Helpful Tips For Your Personal Security
For the majority of us, the idea of being robbed is especially frightening. We feel very alone and are at the mercy of the robber. Even more frightening, is when we are held up when we are at the ATM machine. Conceivably, the robber could financially wipe out their victim in a matter of minutes. In worse case scenarios, you could even have your identification stolen.
But did you know that there is a way to notify the police without the robber knowing it? If forced to withdraw money from your accounts by someone who is robbing you, simply do this:
Type your pin number in backwards. For example, if your pin is 7245, then you would type in the number 5427. The ATM machine will recognize from your card that the number is backwards and notify police.
The ATM will still give you the money you requested so as not to arouse your robber’s suspicions. He will not realize that because you typed your pin number backwards, the police have been dispatched to your assistance.
Be aware of anyone standing or parked near the atm machine. Most would be robbers position themselves a relatively short distance from the ATM machine so that they can watch for a potential victim and close the distance quickly.
If you are robbed, it is best not to resist. If the thief is armed or claims to be so, don’t take any chances that could lead to your being injured. Also try to remember specific details about his or her physical appearance and speech that can aid your description to the authorities. Although, easier said than done, try to remain calm.
Never accept help from anyone. Most robbers are male and around 25 years of age. If you see someone approaching that seems to be threatening quickly terminate your transaction and walk away.
Always listen to your instincts. If they tell you one location is not safe, go to another location
.When you get money out of the ATM machine, don’t stop to count it. Put both your card and cash in your pocket quickly and leave.
