How Quality Matters In Article Writing

One of the often missed aspects of article writing is quality. You’ve probably seen them yourself, articles that had really good attention grabbing headlines, but failed to live up to your expectations once you started reading the material. It could be just a mediocre article all around, it could be too hard to read, too technical, or just plain boring. It could be written in such a way that you have absolutely no idea what the writer is talking about. Or it could be plagiarized.

In article marketing many believe the more articles submitted, the better. While numbers do play a part of it, there is more to it. It does help to have a large number of articles out there for readers to see, but if they do not live up to the reader’s expectations, what good are they?

Odds are, poorly written articles will not propogate nearly as fast as well written ones will. When article directory submissions services are being used, they will get submitted. But whether or not the articles meet the quality demands of the article directories themselves is another issue entirely. When I first started out, I had a number of my first articles rejected because they did not meet the quality standards of individual directories.

If the article meets the directory standards, it may not be meeting the standards of the readers themselves. Here is where the potential viral effect of article marketing comes into play. There is a percentage of these readers who are looking for newer, fresher, material to include on their own website, or in their ezines, article directories, or blogs. They may even use it in a sending to their mailing lists. If they decide to use your article, they must take the entire article including the “About The Author” box.

Obviously the less number of times an article is used, the less the viral effect. The less opportunities that are available for new potential customers to read it. This directly translates into less traffic from it. The less the traffic, the smaller the bottom line.

Another quality aspect of article writing is its flow. Obviously, a sales letter type article will not even be read. While that is true, what about articles that are hard to understand or leave the reader wondering what the writer was trying to say?

In these cases, it may depend on the reader’s standards and what kind of material he or she sends to their lists or ezines. I tend to believe thatin these cases, the responses will not be as good as they could be. Whether or not it helps with the article marketer’s bottom line may be dubious at best.

Plagiarized articles are a really big no-no these days. This is the single biggest killer of both the reputation that is trying to be built and the traffic that is trying to be generated to the site in question. Called Search Engine penalties, plagiarized articles can get a website reduced in ranking or just plain blacklisted faster than anyone would believe.

The main point to this is simply this: In article marketing quality and original content is king. The articles being submitted need to live up to the submissions services quality, the individual directories quality, and more importantly, the reader’s standards for quality. Failing in any of the three can greatly reduce the viral effect of this amazing form of website promotion.
